Total change of pace from the YA fantasy and romance books I’ve been reading lately, but so glad I got to read this.

Our veterans and soldiers should never be forgotten, which makes books like these so important. This memoir doesn’t describe the war directly, but rather chronicles everyday life, which makes it so much more remarkable and chilling.

Reading about the struggles of finding food or shelter, dealing with the unknown and being in constant danger, the joy of a pair of clean socks…all those everyday struggles, thoughts and emotions bring this book alive.
