My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Visually beautiful book, with great layout and gorgeous pictures.
Author uses their own way of grouping (dogs for beginners, good mixers, dogs with talents etc.), which I don’t really mind. It’s perhaps more descriptive, but can be misleading, since it reflects one persons bias or opinion.
The book is geared towards helping people decide which breed is right for them. I like that it goes into activity level, personality, grooming and training requirements. These are important aspects to consider before adding a dog to your family. I don’t think that this book accomplishes its goal. It’s just too brief, lacking important details or glossing over other points. It is also not complete, as the selection presented is missing many breeds. I found it odd that the selection of breeds includes so many obscure and largely unknown breeds. These obscure breeds would be difficult to find, and very expensive, so it doesn’t make sense to me to present them in a book that aims to help you find the right pet dog.
